They also tend to lock people into a long term contract but why? What if your site jumps to number one place in Google after three months, surely there's no need to pay the same amount each month to maintain that position?

SEO is an on-going process and if you stop the work, at some point your competitors will do some work on their site and over take you. What we do is modify your plan so if your site reaches number one position in three months, we can drop the number of hours that we do down so that you're not paying for unnecessary work.
